Gene Hagenberger

Gene Hagenberger has over 40 years of ministerial experience having served as a youth minister, PA state park chaplain, assistant minister, pastor, senior minister, lead pastor, and for the past 13 years as Church of the Brethren Mid-Atlantic district executive minister. Gene was educated at Elizabethtown College, Western Maryland College, Drew Theological Seminary, and Princeton Theological Seminary, and has done clinical pastoral education, the Lilly Endowment’s advanced foundations of church leadership program, earned an executive certificate in religious fundraising from Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, and valued being a life-long learner, most recently a student for the past two years in Yale Divinity School’s Summer Study program.

Gene is married to Jan, who is a NKBA certified kitchen and bath designer with Owings Brothers in Eldersburg, MD. They are the parents of two adult children – daughter Elise and husband Casey of Fairfax, VA, and son Grant and wife Mary of Harrisburg, PA, and grandparents of Grant and Mary’s 9-year-old daughter Amelia and 6-year-old son Jenson.

Gene is a reader, a history buff – most recently a student of the Battle of Gettysburg and its lessons, a place where he frequently walks his good dog Doc (a bagel – beagle & basset mix), enjoys sports, and golfs less than he would like.

Gene is very much looking forward to being Hebron’s interim pastor and caring for you and with you as the congregation moves toward calling its next settled pastor.
